Emily Gellis and SJ Cho found themselves working for the same contemporary clothing line in NYC in 2009.
Emily, a native New Yorker, graduated from New York University and began her career buying contemporary Ready to Wear collections for the retail chain Intermix. SJ grew up in South Korea, studying Oriental Painting.
Recognizing a void in the contemporary handbag market, the girls were compelled to forge a partnership to bring their creative visions to life. In April of 2010 Emily Cho Handbags was born.
Aiming to re-define the spectrum of contemporary handbags, the girls are dedicated to producing high-end luxury products at affordable contemporary prices. To ensure the finest quality for their handbags, all pieces are constructed by hand in an Italian factory specializing in handbag production for over sixty years. Emily and SJ carefully select the finest Italian leathers, specifically using unique stamped leathers that are cut by hand to resemble exotic skins. After months of style development and close attention to detail, Emily Cho bags stand alone as rare specialty items, incomparable to anything else available in today's market. Balancing functionality with vibrant fashion statements, Emily Cho pieces can be worn all day with an easy transition into night.
In their first year of sales, the girls landed the top accounts around the globe including: Saks Fifth Avenue, Fred Segal Boutique, Singer22, Satine, Intermix, Scoop & more. Their handbags will also make a cameo on Gossip Girl this January.
