70's Fancy Dress Costumes and 70s Fashion70s Fashion

The 70's was the decade of Disco. Bell bottoms were very popular and for the first time you could decorate your own to suit. As well, we had the technique of using bleach and tie dye for extra fashion. Now tight shorts with loud prints and huge collars, were worn. Ethnic influences were hinted at by the wearing of bright scarves and large chunky jewelry.

John Travolta arrived in Saturday Night Fever, accompanied by the brightest colors you could wear. Remember the flared pants and bell bottoms? Psychedelia had influenced fashion with several multicolor prints, heavily influenced by Woodstock, from the previous decade. However such tight fitting clothes were uncomfortable to wear and that scene soon ended.

That great sports brand of today, Nike, started business in 1972 focusing on running and sportswear. As time moved on, fashion adopted training and running shoes. In the music industry, celebrities started wearing slinky shirts and womens' make up. This the era of Boy George and David Bowie, and their influence was strong.

On the female front, Farah Fawcett's success in Charlies Angels helped create the market for the flicked end hairstyle. Afro perms were also part of the scene as worn by the young Michael Jackson of the Jackson five. The craze for sun tans started in the 70's with women using fake tan sprays and starting to visit tanning parlors. Completing the look were the shimmering eye makeup and frosted lipstick.

Fashion Shirts: Fabulous Finds

Fashion ShirtsBy Sherwood R. Robins

There are tons of great fashion shirts out this season for both men and women to help you look and feel great all summer long. For guys, brightly colored, patterned graphic, attitude and message tees from Dolce & Gabbana, Emporio Armani, and Urban Outfitters are hot. If clothes make the man then these tees express who and what you are in vivid color and detail. With the 1980s back with a vengeance, the classic Ralph Lauren polo shirt

has never been more in demand. In both solid colors and stripes, this preppy classic has never lost its style. Tommy Bahama tropical shirts are still a mainstay for summertime as are classic plain and printed hoodies from Adidas and Nike. Solid and patterned, striped dress shirts from Michael Kors, Joseph Abboud, D. Squared, Perry Ellis, Diesel, and Armani add sophistication to workplace attire, even during the warm winter months.

Overall, men's fashion shirts, especially tees, are more form-fitting than ever and even dress shirts are fitting much truer to size these days. The age of the big, baggy men's shirt is definitely over. Women's stylish tops for the season are coming in all sorts of bright, summer colors-especially greens, oranges, yellow, turquoise, and lavender. The tunic-style, printed blouse is ever-present especially from designers like Voile, Cavalli, Snake Byte, and Banana Republic.

Camisoles are ubiquitous in both solids and colors, as are satin-trimmed tees, patterned bustiers and tanks. Flowy, feminine blouses from Michael Kors and Karen Kane bring silky femininity to any wardrobe. V-neck and cap sleeve blouses in soft pastels make for the perfect light and airy tops for summer and fall. While natural cotton is always the ideal fabric of choice for the warmer months, versatile, soft and breathable silk is everywhere this season.Fashion ShirtsFashion Shirts

Social Effect of Clothing

Posted by Budi

Fashion WearPeople wear clothes in order to protect their bodies from natural conditions. Heat, extreme cold weather, humidity, and strong sunlight, are some of the reasons why people have begun wearing clothes in the first place. But human clothes have over the years evolved into a symbol in itself.

Conveying a social message to a variety of decoders, clothes, accessories, and decorations, have become a reliable way to denote social status, occupation, economic situation, ethnicity, marital status, sexual orientation and religious affiliation. Focusing on generalities an individual may comprehend only one part of the story the clothes another man or woman wears are conveying.

Sticking with one type of message and filtering every clothing attempt using such a lucid base is totally wrong. Since the manner and the rate at which fashion changes varies among cultures and historic moments, the modern global citizens have to be able to exercise constant restructuring of their fashion principles and devote the necessary time and effort to translating the clothing patterns of different generations.

If for example wearing a suit at work was the only acceptable type of dress-code in Western societies, migration and cultural exchange have introduced different types of acceptable fashion statements in the business environment. Careful examination and continuous intercultural exchange can be the only tools one has today in order to increase his or her chances of translating a garment's or decoration's message accurately.

Winter Fashion Trends For Men

Check out the following fashion forward looks to help you keep up with the latest trends in men's apparel.

Winter Fashion1. Keep it in check. Check patterns and plaids have returned with a vengeance this winter season. Polo by Ralph Lauren has checked dress shirts that range from lumberjack to understated, but the key is to not overdo it. Keep the patterns above the waist and paired with flattering neutral jackets and pants.

2. So what if it's not snowing? Long striped scarves, puffy quilted jackets, and a splash of electric yellow will have you looking more hot than cold this winter. The new Nautica line recently showcased a clever blend of layering bright ski jackets beneath classic wool coats, adding cheer to the dreary weather. Keep an eye out for other emerging favorites like sporty vests and colorful knit caps.

5. To keep this long-time standard trend from getting stale, choose grey jeans over blue and ditch the black leather for unexpected colors. If you're concerned about fit, this season is more about comfort than squeezing into skin-tight pants and t-shirts.

4. The preppy look blossoms in winter. Forget about the cheesy yacht-inspired men's apparel that dominated the summer months. Winter prep looks elegant and timeless. Try pairing a military cardigan, such as the ones found at Ralph Lauren's Polo line this season, with charcoal colored pants and a patterned tie. Or brighten up the office with bold primary colored sweaters in red, blue, and yellow.

5. If trendy men's apparel isn't your thing, classic sharp lines and dark colors are always in style and readily available. Happy hunting, whether you're a lumberjack, rocker, or ski bum.

Fashion Pants

Sweat PantsFashion Pants

Sweatpants are an informal variety of trousers intended for comfort or athletic purposes. Fashion pants typically refers to "fashion conscious" sportswear, such as the pants produced by Juicy Couture. The distinguishing characteristic is that fashion pants lack the elastic band at the ankles.

Windpants often have zippers on each ankle, allowing athletes to unzip the end of each leg to pull the pants over their footwear. Tearaway pants, also known as breakaway pants, rip-off pants, or (in the UK) popper pants, are another variation of sweatpants, and are closely related to windpants. Tearaway pants are windpants with metal snaps running the length of both legs. Some tearaway pants have snaps on only part of the legs, but normally the snaps run the entire length. Some tearaway pants are reversible. The buttons and snaps allow athletes to remove their tearaway pants in a timely manner to compete in some sports. Basketball and track and field are the two sports most commonly associated with tearaway pants and windpants.

Adidas is the largest manufacturer of tearaway pants, followed by Nike, Inc.[citation needed] Other manufacturers are Spalding, Russell Athletic, Teamwork Athletic Apparel, Wilson Sporting Goods, And 1, Reebok, Champion, Polo Ralph Lauren, Converse, Old Navy, Foot Locker, Tommy Hilfiger, Fila, and numerous other brands.

Muscle pants more closely resemble regular sweatpants than tearaway pants or windpants. Muscle pants are usually made out of thin cotton material. Muscle pants are often characterized by wild patterns and sometimes flamboyant designs. Muscle pants were designed for use in bodybuilding; bodybuilders needed a special kind of pants to accommodate their bulging muscles and bodies while working out.

Fashion Stylists - the Emerging Class in the Fashion IndustryFashion Stylists

Fashion stylist - a word unheard of till recently - is one of the emerging professions in the fashion world globally. Who is a fashion stylist? A 'fashion stylist', as the name suggests, works with fashion trends to create a distinct style for a particular individual. The services of fashion stylists are generally employed by newspapers, magazines and advertising agencies. In this case, they are required to dress up the models for shoots. A major part of the job involves planning what would look good on each model, deciding from where to buy or hire these dresses and accessories depending on the budget, bringing them to the shoot and actually dressing up the models.

Fashion stylists are also used by celebrities like actors, singers and television hosts. Such stylists are typically referred to as 'celebrity stylists'. Their job is to create a distinct image for the celebrity. The Oscar-winning Bollywood actresses Meryl Streep and Halle Berry owe their glamorous look to stylist Wayne Scot Lucas. In Hollywood too, fashion designer Manish Malhotra turned fashion stylist for Bollywood actresses Karisma Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee to give them a new look.

There is another class of fashion stylists, who are referred to as 'personal stylists' or 'image consultants'. They work with individuals who need a makeover, a complete change of image. Many businesspersons are going in for the services of personal stylists today to build up a different image.

Cufflinks and the Psychology of Men's Fashion

Cufflinks and the Psychology of Men's Fashion

Men's FashionRegardless of the current economy and the rather gloomy predictions, the demand for cufflinks is undoubtedly growing today. And that includes designer brands as well.

A pair of diamond cufflinks, vintage cufflinks, or gold or silver cufflinks, may well cost over a thousand dollars, but it's still quite affordable compare to other luxuries in life.

The demand for cufflinks as a fashion trend has lead to the idea of mass producing. The most intricate details of cufflinks are still hand-crafted. The devotion, artistry, and personal touch of the jeweler are also embedded on the pair of cufflinks. Often times in jewelry making, we consider the material or stones used, but we cannot deny the fact that the human element in contributes also to the overall value of jewelry. The demand for such jewelry like cufflinks, regardless of value, is an evident proof of the playing psychology in fashion. Many may not readily see it or seem to care about it, but psychology plays a crucial role in fashion both in the clothes and accessories we wear.

Each piece has certain attributes that portrays something. The combination of clothes and accessories one puts on gives away a piece of the bearer's fashion taste, personality, and character.

Generally, like domino effect, good looks result to good feelings, and good feelings adds to self-confidence. Most colors imply certain attributes. Blue and white are popularly associated with peace. Red is striking and emotional. Black is generally authoritative and versatile. A good understanding of what colors may portray is important.

Home Fashion: The Fashion Of Modern Occupants

Home Fashion: The Fashion Of Modern Occupants

home fashionHome furnishing or soft furnishing is the latest trend in the business of fashion today. Lifestyle furnishing has become a mix of aesthetics, comfort, colours and designs. The prints for curtains vary from animals, to soft toys, cartoons and candies; the same is applicable for rugs, bed sheets, duvet covers and cushions.

Curtains can surely make the room look more attractive. Generally fabrics for sewing curtains are 54 inches wide or extra wide at 110 inches or 118 inches. Curtains with well-designed features like noise and light reduction are being particularly produced for exports. The options are many; curtains are available in every size, colour, fabric and designs like stripes, checks, floral, woven, printed, etc. Tab-top curtains have fabric loops on the top to which a rod is fixed. Tap-top curtains are a latest trend that is common in modern homes.

Many traditional Indian weaves and embroideries are being done all over India on the home furnishings products. Many home furnishing companies are making these products with handlooms. The Indian home furnishings market is around Rs 15,000 crore, of which the organised market is about Rs 1,000 crore. Raymond provides the widest range of colours to satisfy the various colour requirements of interiors in Home furnishings. Home Solutions is establishing chain of home stores, committed to all things that would be required for setting up, decorating and furnishing a home. Recently, Portico, a premium Home Decor & furnishings brand introduced its premium and 'Sparkly' range.

At present the home furnishings segment is considered a flourishing sector in the textile industry. Domestic and export markets are both booming for home furnishings.

Retail ambience, coordinated product ranges; in-store display; point-of-purchase promotional literature on the product features as well as the company's lineage and superior in-store service are some of the primary actions that home furnishing companies must take. We require building up more colour and design sensitive people to work in this segment. Cushion covers and curtains are the more demandable products. Brown sofas are outdated; people need lively colours like blue and red. A few years ago consumers never demanded highly branded home furnishing products, but now they are very well aware about new products and brands in the market, though brand awareness in this segment is still low.

80s Fashion Trends and How To Wear Them Today

Posted by Budi

80s fashionBy Amber McNaught

80s fashion. We thought it would never come back to haunt us, but somehow it did, and suddenly we find leggings, neon and Raybans filling the stores once more.

But how on earth are you supposed to wear 80s fashion items in the "noughties" without looking like a tragic throwback? Here are some ideas

Leggings

Worn in the 80s over huge, batwinged sweaters and oversized tees, the key to making leggings work for you these days is to layer them. And then layer them some more. Think of leggings, not as pants (Heaven forbid!) but as hosiery, and wear them with dresses and skirts to create a look that's warm in the winter, and will let you get away with shorter skirts than you'd otherwise dare to wear in the warmer months.

Legwarmers

Remember Flashdance? That's not the look we're going for these days, so relax. Leggings are no longer worn over leotards and leggings (see above), but under tall boots in the winter. They'll keep your legs toasty, make those too-wide boots fit your legs better, and they look pretty cute, too. And if you're really hankering after the 'Kids from Fame' look, you can always wear them around the house

Neon

Neon featured heavily on the catwalks for Spring/Summer 08, and we're starting to see lots of it filtering through to the stores. The key to this look is always "less is more", so rather than going for neon dresses, skirts, sweaters or pants, choose brightly coloured accessories instead you're much less likely to regret them later!

Finally, it's always good to remember that not all fashion trends were created equal. Eighties trends like huge shoulder pads, power suits and poodle perms are probably best left back in the decade that created them!

Finding Fashion Inspiration in History

By Koh Tze Yin

A LITTLE HISTORY:

Southeast Asia is made up of colossal number of ethnic cultures, including the Nyonya's: Nyonya's is a name used for the culture of the early Chinese immigrants in Malacca on the Malaysian Peninsula, they later increased with the British straights settlements in Singapore and Penang after intermarriages with the Malay population. The Nyonya kebaya first appeared in Baba Nyonya culture only at the beginning of the twentieth century. The Nyonya kebaya was first formed by the Peranakan people of Malacca. Subsequently, the kebaya was worn at a time when the world around was changing, as the world changed so did the way the kebaya was made and worn, the progression of its manner is remarkable. The kebaya has generally been around for over a century, however, its traditional, cultural value and historical claim is never changing.

ABOUT THE NYONYA KABAYA:

fashion historyThere is a story behind every Nyonya kebaya: when it was made, where it was made, who it was made by, what it was made for and the occasion for which it was made. In terms of creativity, some kebayas stand out more then others. It is a promise that the more lavish the kebaya the more prolific the story for tales are embroidered upon the material. Working on the creation a kebaya is monotonous and demanding, it takes up to six uninterrupted hours a day to slave away at a sewing machine to perfect a segment of a kebaya. Kebaya tailors are usually women who inherit the art from their mothers or other women in their family. The main distinction of the Nyonya kebaya from other kebayas is that the fabric used for the top is sheer, sometimes it is voile, georgette, or gauze cotton. Because the top is so translucent, these days, underneath women will wear a lacy shirt or a contrasting bra. Therefore, there are two well known basic styles of the Nyonya kebaya, the first one is a long jacket also referred to as kebaya labuh the second is with a short jacket also known as kebaya pandek; both very distinctive in Nyonya culture.

THE DYING ART:

The art of kebaya is seemingly perceived as fading in fault of both worlds. For the artists who take it to the grave, who refuse to pass down the skill to the next generation, and to the next generation that don't care enough to learn nor lack the passion to want to preserve it. It was only recently when I met Kim, a very well-known yet humble tailoress who has dedicated her life to perfecting her craft. She had told us that the prime minister's wife, Datin Seri Endon Mahmood, for whom she has fitted a kebaya for before, had asked her to share the art, to not take it to the grave. She agreed. When she speaks of the Kebaya her passion transcends, she strongly wishes to conserve the art but she too feels, there is a probability that it will fade. When I had asked her why students are not excelling in the ability of kebaya-making she had responded by saying "Usually students will never be as good as making the kebaya as their teachers, today they are interested in other things. It's more then just learning how to sew, they have to have the gift." And a gift it is indeed, walking through Kim's store, her artistry is certainly impeccable, I noticed that some of her most intricate embroideries are even suitable for weddings. As a perfectionist she is very aware of how the kebaya should fit the body, where, and how it should be pinned to each individual shape. Before I had recently tried on a kebaya I knew little of it, after fitting on a few with different styles: one with a traditional skirt, another with regular jeans. I strongly feel like it would be a great loss for generations to come if it were to grow fainter as it is doing so presently. The kebaya, as I have learned, is more then just an aesthetically beautiful blouse, it is also part of history, a culture, and to wear one is to wear a story. The mysterious art of kebaya should be uncovered to contemporary fashion. To women worldly.

Fashion History - Creating Your Own Fashion Legacy

Fashion HistoryIt's an amazing piece of a historic event - the role that FASHION will play - and rightfully so. By now, if you were up early, you saw Michelle Obama leave her (very) temporary residence in a golden yellow brocade dress with a matching long jacket and long silk scarf - smiling and waving to news crews as she entered St. John's Church in Washington DC with her husband - the 44th president of our country. It really matters.

Clothing isn't just something to buy, wear, and toss away. For plus size women, there's also the tremendous honor of having some great fashion in the right size when the young women in your life are struggling - both financially and with their identities. Even plus size women like Oprah Winfrey have shared that finding the right dress in her size has driven her to tears on the MOST special occasions, like the Emmy's.

You will be more than the hero when you have that gorgeous plus size little black dress for someone's special New Year's Eve - or a beautiful plus size blouse to accent a great suit for that big interview. As plus size women, we KNOW how important it is to dress to impress and dress for success!

Try The 1950s Retro Look!

By Trevor Kassulke

1950s FashionThe fabulous era of 1950s reminds one of rock and roll music, Elvis Presley, popular TV shows of Lucille Ball, side burns, and polka dotted prom dresses. The 1950s retro products available in the market recreate the magic associated with this period. Getting nostalgic by wearing retro dresses and shoes and using other retro products has a charm of its own.

Retro dresses and shoes of the 1950s look especially good on women. If selected properly and worn with or without slight modifications, they can make a women look a class apart. The Tulle Gowns, Satin Stretch Wiggle dresses, mesh gowns, poodle skirts, and the disco outfits, are truly reminiscent of the 1950s era. Some other very popular dresses of 1950s are the Polka Dot Swing Dress, Appliqué dress, Strapless party dress, Navy dress, Leopard Wiggle dress, Taffeta dress, Bubble dress, and bustier.

The 1950s retro clothes and accessories range for men is generally considered incomplete without a hat. Retro shops have different styles of hats and men's cardigans which ruled the fashion in the 1950s. Pink colored clothes, cowboy style clothes and boots or even plain suits were also quite popular and are available in retro shops. Even the 1950s styled bowling shirts can easily be bought from online shops dealing with retro products.

There are several other retro products available in the market which reminds one of this era. Purple colored mint condition sunglasses with green lens were a rage in those days. Beaded purses and stripped sandals, pyramid and fur coats, Chandelier crystal clip earrings, were other very popular fashion accessories from 1950s. These retro products are available at slightly higher rates at the thrift shops.

Even electronic products of 1950s like the refrigerators, AM/ FM retro radio with cassette player, washing machines, and much more can be found at reasonable rates. Retro toys, pedal planes, trikes and more can also be procured from retro shops. Other very popular items, especially on online shops, are the retro candy gift boxes, cigarette ashtrays, retro lighters and retro books. These retro items not only bring back sweet memories but also have terrific gift value.

Retro home furnishings are very popular especially among the elderly. Fabrics, tiles, dining table and chairs, bar stools, and other furniture attract a large number of buyers. Hand painted ceramic dishes, dinette sets, wine glasses, mugs, cocktail shakers, shot glasses, soda siphons, baskets, pans, are all widely available. With the help of these retro products, a 1950s atmosphere can truly be created in the home.

Finding retro products is not very difficult because there are specialized shops dealing with these products. The best way to shop for them is to shop online. 1950s retro products can in fact be found in one's grandparents' collection itself. With slight modifications these can very well become the latest fad.

Fashion Brand

Developing A Fashion Brand

You walk into a party in a simple ensemble and furtive glances and raised eyebrows are what your encounter. Actually it's all about the brand you are wearing. You are right now making a statement.

fashion brandThat's what branding is all about. One look at the garment and the onlooker is able to relate the weave, work, colour, embellishment style or typical detailing with the name of the designer. Brand positioning is like sitting high on a pedestal and staying there. A brand could be an exclusive colour like white experimenting with all fabrics and yet the designing could get unique. It is like your personality, unique and distinguished.

Branding is a delicate subject. Once you choose a style it remains. Allowing modifications loosely, the concept should never change. Focusing on the target audience is a marketing skill. One has to adhere to a lot of survey in gathering information about clientele, competitive areas, and spending powers of the client. All this marketing techniques are catered to garner attention on the brand. Once the brand is consolidated, demand automatically generates.

For e.g. If you are focusing on apparel for Indian saris, a certain peacock motif or plain style pallu or zigzag gold-silver zari work in single lines would be a nice idea. Ideas seem many and it's a designer's perspective to create that effect.

Expansion of brand creation in the home market and international ramps is also to be well chalked out. Factors of all kinds like finance, turn-around times, talented and classified man power, marketing strategies broad based in seasonal selling, mega-sales and membership facilities is necessary.

Ultimately a brand should be evoking an emotion. A strong sense of recall and awakening from the client should be effectively registered. The creation be it a shirt, print, combination fabric or fashion should be niche, unique and a logo by itself.

60's fashion

The Fashion of the 1960s

60's fashionThe '60s was the decade of freedom. Everyone, particularly the youth, spoke out their preferences, and had an immediate and powerful effect on the fashion industry. For example, the women of the '60s chose to have a childlike image with short skirts, much like the trend in the 1920s.

Fashion in the '60s emphasized simplicity, youthfulness, and neatness. Synthetic fabrics became widely used during the decade. Hats became passé. Stilettos were widely used items as well as lower kitten heels. Flat boots were also worn as well as very short dresses. Shoes invariably changed from pointed toes, to chisel shaped toes, and to almond toes.

Light fabric was the choice material for menswear in the decade. Young men chose to grow their hair down, even reaching the collar. For good measure they added floral motifs and colors to their shirts. Other trends among men were the wearing of the polo neck, the workman jacket coupled with rough corduroy. The Mao jacket also proved to be more than a political gimmick. Jeans were also worn marking another innovation in the wardrobe of men. Designers like Pierre Cardin introduced some progressive rumbling although the 3-piece suit remained unchanged. The '60s movements of hippie and psychedelia had a strong influence on fashion.

The decade also marked the rise of partnerships between high fashion designers and popular celebrities. Audrey Hepburn was matched with Givenchy, while Jackie Kennedy found hers with Oleg Cassini. It was also the time when models stamped their influence on fashion.

Maternity Fall Fashion 2009Fall Fashion

With everything constantly changing each season, (the leaves, your belly, and the trends) it may be a bit hard to keep up.

A TAILORED JACKET -There is a return to tailoring and sophistication this season. While we won't do to well in a tailored waist dress, who said we can't do a tailored jacket. Be sure to purchase a tailored maternity jacket since it will be the base point of every woman's wardrobe this season.

TOP-HANDLED BAG -If you change anything up this season be sure to replace your slouchy-pouchy hobo purse with a ladylike top-handled bag in a yummy fall tone of aubergine, putty, camel, dark green, or chocolate. Tip: If you're like me and can't seem to break your black bag habit, then at least try to choose a black with a little shine, a crackled finish, or some hardware that really lifts the black up.

BANGIN' BOOTIES -Whether it's the scrunchy boot, a mid-calf, or an over-the-knee boot, we think the boot is the most important shoe of the season. It's really about a boot wardrobe this season. Tip: Pair your boots with a flowy maternity dress.

A SENSATIONAL SHIRT -No longer just for secretaries or 80's working girl, the bow-neck shirt is a pretty way to freshen up for fall - provided you proceed with a healthy dose of fashion-forward. If you're wearing a bow shirt, it shouldn't be too conservative. Tip: Pair with an edgy boot or accessory.

Fashion Boutique Retailer Survival Guide

While some of the largest names in retail are forced through weak earnings to close stores and file bankruptcy, the small boutique owner can't help but wonder about what lies in store for the future.Fear of the unknown can often lead to paralysis and generalized business inertia at precisely the point when fresh initiative and action is needed. It takes courage in these uncertain times to invest in your business but investment doesn't mean draining your already strained financial resources.

Fashion ButiqueSimple and shrewd adjustments can derive substantial benefits for your business with the minimum of cost. The appearance of vitality is essential if you are to thrive in these testing economic times.Your ability to anticipate change and move rapidly is a powerful advantage you wield over the decision-by-committee structure that frequently hobbles larger business models. Even if prospective customers don't buy on their initial visit, if they encounter an inviting and stimulating environment the odds are they will be back again and your business will benefit from word of mouth promotion, which again means additional future traffic and a furthering of the cycle.

Bear in mind that visual merchandising starts on the street. Shoddy window displays will work against you. Upgrading scruffy retail displays is a must and needn't break the bank. Check online for various options and price points and keep an eye open for local auctions and store liquidation sales, which are abundant right now.

Weight your inventory to reflect your target demographic and their ever-evolving circumstances. Faster moving items will be the lower price points - grow your accessories merchandise.

Some students fresh out of school usually want to jump into a business right away; but before you invest money, practice your skills in a familiar environment. For an aspiring fashion designer, building your promotions and having mini campaigns locally are ideas that can help advance you into something bigger in the near future.

Japanese Fashion - Gothic Lolita

Posted by Budi on Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Gothic Lolita styleGothic Lolita or "GothLoli" is a youth fashion among Japanese teenagers and young women. It emphasizes Victorian-style girl's clothing and often aims to imitate the look of Victorian porcelain dolls. Gothloli's name and origin is a combination of lolita fashion—appearing deliberately cute to the point of looking childish—and certain styles found within gothic fashion. The style started as a youth subculture sometime around 1997/1998 and became a well-established genre available in various boutiques and some major department stores by around 2001. Some observers consider it a reaction to the "Kogal" aesthetic.

Gothic Lolita is one of the subcategories of the Lolita look. Other categories include "Classic Lolita" (more traditional, light-coloured, also more mature-looking) and "Sweet Lolita" (childish pastel-coloured clothes, lots of lace and ribbons).

Gothic Lolita was influenced and popularised by the imagery of more feminine Visual Kei (or "visual rock") bands. Visual Kei is a Japanese form of rock music defined by bands featuring performers in elaborate costumes but whose musical style varies. Mana, the crossdressing former leader and guitarist of the Visual Kei band Malice Mizer is widely credited for having helped popularise Gothic Lolita. He coined the terms "Elegant Gothic Lolita" (EGL) and "Elegant Gothic Aristocrat" (EGA) to describe the style of his own fashion label Moi-même-Moitié, which was founded in 1999 and quickly established itself as one of the most coveted brands of the Gothic Lolita scene.

The style
Gothic Lolita styleGothic Lolita style is usually a combination of black and white, often black with white lace and typically decorated with ribbons and lace trims. Skirts are knee length and may have a crinoline or petticoat to add volume. As in mainstream Japanese fashion, over-knee socks or stockings are extremely popular. Black fishnet stockings and white or black tights are also common. Shoes or boots with high heels - though not usually stiletto heels - such as Mary Janes, complete the look. Frilly, ruffled or lace-trimmed Victorian blouses are also popular especially with "EGL" types, who may also favour long skirts and jackets rather than the overtly "childish" designs of typical gothloli's. Apart from the occasional shortness of skirts, designs are usually modest, sometimes with long lace-capped sleeves.

Some additions may include an Alice in Wonderland-style apron, tiny top hats, parasols, lace gloves, and lace headpieces. Mostly black or white, headgear might consist of a headband with ruffles, ribbons, lace or bows. Sometimes even bonnets are worn. Hair may be curled to complete the porcelain doll look. The naturally dark Japanese hair color may be lightened to blonde or kept black. Some may choose to wear wigs as well.

Makeup is used sparingly and is seen more often with EGL styles than with other gothloli styles. Black eyeliner is typical. A pale complexion is preferred, so white foundation might be used. Red or black lipstick is seen but lighter makeup is the rule.

Gothic Lolita outfits may be accessorized with other props like conspicuous pocketbooks, hatboxes, handbags and other bags, sometimes in the shape of bats, coffins, and crucifixes. Teddy bears and other stuffed animals are also common, and some brands make special "gothic" teddy bears out of black leather or PVC. Also, many Gothic Lolita own Super Dollfies and carry them around.

Japanese Fashion - Lolita Style

Lolita StylesLolita fashion is a style of dress orginated in Japan. Although "Lolita" is a reference to Vladimir Nabokov's famous novel, and Lolita is often worn by teens, most adherents present themselves as Victorian children or baby dolls and prefer to look "cute" rather than "sexy".

Japanese culture places a higher value upon extremely youthful appearance and behaviour than Western, and some adult women buy large amounts of products, such as Hello Kitty goods, that are typically marketed only to children in the West. Lolita fashion is perhaps a more visible extension of this phenomenon.

In general, Lolita fashion tends to imitate Victorian-style girl's clothing and often aims to imitate the look of Victorian porcelain dolls. Frilly, ruffled or lace-trimmed Victorian blouses are also popular especially with "Gothic Lolita" types, who may also favour long skirts and jackets rather than overtly "childish" designs. Apart from the occasional shortness of skirts, designs are usually modest, sometimes with long lace-capped sleeves. Lace headdress and bracelets are usually worn.

Lolita Styles
Lolita StylesThe Lolita look can be classified into "Sweet Lolita", "Classical Lolita", "Gothic Lolita" and "Kimono Lolita".

Classic Lolita
They are more traditional, look more like the Victorian fashion, light-coloured, also more mature-looking. Traditional Maid-style clothing and Alice in Wonderland-style apron may be classfied into this genre.

Gothic Lolita
Influenced by certain elements of gothic fashion, this has probably become the most popular style within Lolita fashion and certainly the most recognized in the west. This style started as a youth subculture sometime around 1997/1998 and became a well-established genre available in various boutiques and some major department stores by around 2001. Some observers consider it a reaction to the "Kogal" aesthetic.

Gothic Lolita clothes are usually black in color, or with a dark theme. Makeup is usually dark in color, in contrast with other Lolita genre where lovely and light color makeup is preferred. Black eyeliner is typical. A pale complexion is preferred, so white foundation might be used. Red or black lipstick is usually seen.

Goken Lolita outfits may be accessorized with other props like conspicuous pocketbooks, hatboxes, handbags and other bags, sometimes in the shape of bats, coffins, and crucifixes. Teddy bears and other stuffed animals are also common, and some brands make special "goken" teddy bears out of black leather or PVC. Also, many Goken Lolita own Super Dollfies and carry them around.

Sweet Lolita
They have lots of lace and ribbons, usually light-colored (although there are black/white sweet lolita), attempting to look as cute and little-girlish as possible. End results typically exudes a doll like appearance.

Kimono Lolita
As the name suggest, they are crossover of Kimono and lace-featured skirt.

Lolita Culture
In Japan it is mass-marketed and has wide visibility particularly in the streets of Tokyo and Osaka, on television, in manga and computer games. Outside of Japan it is still a fringe fashion, although it has been spreading slowly to other regions and countries (for example, Hong Kong has a number of Lolita outlets). Lolita, along with Cosplay and other Japanese cultural phenomena, can sometimes be seen at concerts and anime conventions throughout Europe and the United States. Although being a fringe fashion, there are plenty of dedicated fans filling the gap. Lolita magazines are widely available for purchase on the internet and at Japanese bookstores, which also deal in anime and manga. Adherents outside Japan often sew their own homemade Lolita outfits, sometimes offering them for sale to make up for the difficulty of acquiring them from Japan.

Japanese Fashion - School Uniform

Posted by Budi on Tuesday, July 21, 2009

School UniformJapan introduced Western style school uniforms in the late 19th century as a part of its modernization program. Today, school uniforms are almost universal in the public and private school systems. They are also used in some women's colleges.

The Japanese junior and senior high school uniform traditionally consists of a military style uniform (gakuran) for boys and a sailor dress (sailor fuku) for girls. Many schools have moved into more western pattern parochial school uniform styles in order to make a departure from the decidedly military appearance of the traditional uniform. These uniforms consist of a white dress shirt, necktie, blazer with school crest and dress trousers (often not of the same color as the blazer) for boys and a white blouse, necktie, blazer with school crest and tartan skirt for girls. Schools usually have a summer version of the uniform.

Japanese High School Girls
The school uniform is an established part of Japanese life and has become a recognized fashion style in its own right. Many teenage girls wear their uniforms even on weekends and non-school days, making alterations such as wearing skirts mini length and adding "accessories" such as Burberry scarves (always worn with the label showing) and loose socks.

School UniformSchool uniforms & popular culture
Stylized school uniforms are prominent for instance in the Japanese comic Sailor Moon, or in Cardcaptor Sakura, as well as Ling Xiaoyu and Miharu Hirano's school uniforms in the Tekken games. Asuka Kazama's school uniform is a different style than Xiaoyu and Miharu's school uniforms, however (examples of this uniform include Lori's (Shiori) school uniform seen in an episode of Zatch Bell!).

School uniforms have also become something of a fetish item, with used school uniforms being offered for sale.

Loose socks
Loose socks are a type of sock that is popular among young Japanese girls.

They are nearly always white and are very long, in some cases up to almost 2 meters. They are usually worn below the knee, and are held up with a special adhesive called "socks glue" or "sock touch". They are similar in appearance to leg warmers.

Some high school girls like wearing loose socks together with their school uniforms. Certain schools don't allow students to wear loose socks at school, so it is quite common to see girls changing socks in cafes, on trains, or on the street.

Finding Your Own Fashion Style
Fashion StylesWhat is one year's hot item is the next season's fashion "don't." Luckily, the fashion style that makes the most sense on an individual level is the fashion style that reflects who we are as people; and that never goes out of style.

Wearing something just for the sake of wearing it ultimately goes against the principles of fashion. A fashion style that you choose to wear should be something that accentuates your positives, downplays your negatives, and complements the overall line of your body.

Assess your body objectively; if you have trouble spots, look for cuts and fabrics that camouflage what you need them to camouflage; if you are on the shorter side, look for a fashion style that elongates your body; and always choose colors that complement your skin tone.

The Recent Fashion Style for Teenager
Fashion StylesThe latest trend is emotional style. Fashion style is certainly for those who love bright colours. Green, pink, red, yellow, black game, you probably will be visible. Fashion style is perfect for those who wear glasses - it is of great importance and OME love Nerdy one.

Hip-hop never goes out of fashion. This Hip-hop fashion for teen boys and teen girls is quite changed. Boys are usually wears baggy pants and shirt, and girls chose sexy held. The boys usually prefer blue jeans and white colors, and the top girls are totally unpredictable. Teen girls wear earrings large and rounded teen boys should put on at slightest one ring.

What fashion designers reach this season gothic youth? Dressing all-black colouring your hair black, using only the means of black paint or bleaching your face to discuss everything else is black, even the hot trend. Choose large Chunky-heeled shoes; Regardless of whether the wearing of short or long skirt, a close fitting or a free - it's OK as long as the black.

Shopping for vintage clothes can be a time-consuming process, because the clothes aren't laid out neatly and with plenty of room like in a regular store. #3 A woman's fashion vintage tip: Learn the routines. Different thrift and vintage stores will receive deliveries of new (old) clothes on different days.

#4 A woman's fashion vintage tip: Remember about alterations

#5 A woman's fashion vintage tip: Be accommodating and persistent

Vintage Fashion

The best way to shop for vintage clothes is on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. This gives the thrift and vintage stores enough time to get in new stock to refresh their racks. The next great vintage find could be just around the corner.

So there we have it – save money, look super stylish AND individual, keep the planet happy and follow as many trends as your heart desires – it may sound too good to be true but vintage clothes really can offer the perfect fashion and lifestyle solution.
